I started my yarn business back in 2006 via the internet selling sock yarns. As an avid sock knitter I wanted to bring in sock yarns not available in retail stores. I had lots of fun but it wasn't enough to make a full time business.

In 2010 I had planned to change my focus and go secondary teaching, that was until I mentioned to my partner that I would love my own yarn 'bricks and mortar' store. His response was, "why don't you do it?"  Curiously enough things fell into place and in February 2010 I opened my own shop in Karori, Wellington.  Luckily, a former work colleague who lived in Karori was keen to join me. Bringing her knitting and retail skills, Maureen is an asset who helps make Knitting Pretty work.
